Hyper- and viscoelastic modeling of the ovine intervertebral disc tissue

چکیده
Intervertebral disc (IVD) carries compressive loads and resists the tensile shear stress, produced during bending rotational movements. Hence, identifying its mechanical behavior has always encouraged researchers to propose various models for this tissue. Both viscoelastic hyperelastic have been observed regarding IVD. Therefore, study aims at mechanically characterizing tissue using existing hyper- constitutive further discuss best ones. Three stress relaxation tests were performed on ten ovine cervical IVD samples evaluate their behavior. Models with linear, quasi-linear, nonlinear implemented. For response, another test was carried out a load constant strain rate fit seven previously suggested our recorded data. All as uniaxial compression. Calculations made isotropy incompressibility assumptions. Results approved nonlinearity of tissue’s since linear predicted divergent responses different inputs. However, modified superposition theory, featuring time- strain-dependent function, most accurate model predict response levels. As hyperelasticity, Mooney-Rivlin, Yeoh, Veronda-Westmann fitted experimental data higher R2 values.

INTRODUCTION Generation of a complete map of arterial wall mechanical properties can improve treatment of cardiovascular diseases via contributions to design of patient specific vascular substitutes used to alleviate athero-sclerosis and stenoses, which are predominant in arterial pathways (i.e., abdominal aorta, carotids, or femoral arteries). Clinically useful estimation of arterial propertie...
متن کاملHyper-elastic modelling of intervertebral disc polyurethane implant.
Artificial materials including various kinds of polymers like polyurethanes are more and more widely used in different branches of science and also in biomedical engineering. The paper presents the process of creating a constitutive equation for a polyurethane nanocomposite which is considered to be hyper-elastic. The constitutive modelling was conducted within the range of application of the m...
متن کاملEffects of Morphine Dependency on Intervertebral Disc in the Rat
Background: A large proportion of patients presenting with lumbar disc disease are opium addicts in our region. It was, therefore, hypothesized that morphine might affect the intervertebral disc. We investigated the histological findings of morphine dependency on intervertebral discs in rat. Methods: Forty NMRI adult male rats (230-250 g) placed on ordinary diet and received aqueous solution of...
متن کاملMechanobiological Models for Intervertebral Disc Tissue Engineering
Low back pain, which is often caused by disc degeneration, is a major health problem. Due to the limitations of the current treatments for degenerative disc disease, tissue engineering methods have been proposed. These methods present the opportunity to restore the functionality of the intervertebral disc by repairing or replacing the degenerated tissue. One of the major challenges in intervert...
